The Indian Railways has registered a 26 per cent increase in freight earnings, indicating about five per cent growth in the loading of commodities such as coal, steel and cement.
The freight loading indicates industrial activity.
The total approximate earnings of the Indian Railways on originating basis during April 1– June 30 were Rs 29,902.52 crore, registering an increase of 20.73 per cent, said an official release. The total goods earnings during the period were at Rs 21,205.13 crore, an increase of 26.19 per cent, while the passenger revenues were at Rs 7,462.20 crore, registering an increase of 9.16 per cent.
