Shipping Corporation of India will be offering a feeder service between Mundra in Gujarat and JN port in Mumbai. This is to help shippers who may be affected by JNPT's decision not to accept vessels over 260 meters length till the new quay cranes are commissioned.
JNPT is in the process of commissioning three new rail mounted quay cranes at its main container berth.
In a notice to the trade, SCI said some of its mainline vessels will skip JN port and discharge the cargo only at Mundra. This is expected to continue for six to seven weeks.
The corporation will withdraw vessels from other services and place them as feeder vessels to ply between Mundra and JNPT. Shippers can avail of the feeder service and bring back the cargo to Mumbai. Shippers will have to bear the additional cost, said an SCI official.
