A committee set up in Air India to review the performance of its Boeing 787 aircraft, more commonly referred to Dreamliner has been asked to submit its report by next month, a senior official of the Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Thursday.
The committee is reviewing whether the aircraft meets fuel efficiency as promised by the manufacturer at the time of placing the order.
If the committee finds that the aircraft does not meet the promised fuel efficiency, then Air India will be able to seek compensation from Boeing. The quantum of compensation the airline will be in a position to seek has not been made public by both Boeing and the airline, citing a confidentiality clause. Air India had sealed an agreement with Boeing to acquire 68 aircraft, including 27 Boeing 787, in 2005. The airline has received 20 aircraft till now.
