The aviation sector regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has grounded the entire fleet of the Madhya Pradesh civil aviation department. The State Government has 2 helicopters and 2 fixed wing aircraft in its fleet.

According to DGCA sources, the regulator recently conducted an audit of the MP Government's aviation wing and found several discrepancies, after which a decision was taken to ground the entire fleet.

Among various discrepancies, the regulator found that there was no safety division. Records for neither flying crew nor passengers, were being maintained. Besides, there were instances of overloading, with some flights carrying up to 100 kg over the permitted loads for such flights, the source added.

The State aviation wing has been asked to rectify all the issues. Its aircraft will be permitted to fly only when the DGCA is fully satisfied, the source said.

The regulator is conducting an audit of the aviation wings of 14 State Governments and 9 Public Sector Undertakings. It is also asking the State Governments' aviation wings to take non-schedule operator permit (NSOP).

Once the State Government and PSUs' aviation wings get the NSOP, they will have to adhere to stricter controls and regulations.
