Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday inaugurated the passenger jetty of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) near the fishing harbour area.
He was accompanied by VPT Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu and Vice-Admiral Satish Soni, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.
VPT has a 100-metre slipway jetty in the fishing harbour area. It can accommodate crafts of a length of over 70 mt, beam 14 mt, and draft of 5 mt, or two craft of 40 mt length, or three craft of 25 mt length carrying 200 passengers roughly.
As a part of the ongoing International Fleet Review, the VPT has upgraded and beautified the slipway jetty and the surrounding areas at a cost of Rs 4 crore. A separate access has been provided and landscaping has been done. Tourist boats can be berthed at the jetty.
The Chief Minister urged the VPT to take up construction of such jetties in the vicinity of Vizag and promote tourism. He later visited the facilitation centre built by the Navy for the dignitaries to view the International Fleet Review on Saturday and Sunday.
