The Delhi High Court has restrained Air India pilots from going on strike on March 16. The order states, “....conciliation is pending and there is no threat to go on strike. It is further submitted that there is no intention of the defendants to violate any statutory provisions.”
The Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), which had issued a strike notice on February 23 to go on strike from March 9, had deferred the strike to March 16 after meeting the Chief Labour Commissioner, Mr S.K. Mukhopadhyay. Further, conciliatory proceedings were held at the Central Labour Commissioner's office on Tuesday.
Panel on fake licences
Meanwhile, in the wake of the Air India pilot Captain J.K. Verma being caught for allegedly forging his marksheets to obtain a flying licence, the national carrier has constituted a three-member committee to look into the documents of qualification of its pilots.
The committee constituted by Air India will include two of the airline's Executive Directors in charge of Operations and Industrial Relations. The committee will then submit its report to the Air India Chief Vigilance Officer.
On Tuesday, the Civil Aviation Minister, Mr Vayalar Ravi, told the Rajya Sabha that an expert committee will be formed to look into the current system of examination and procedures for obtaining a pilot licence.
