The Eastern Railway (ER) has achieved an over 9-per cent growth in freight loading to nearly 55 million tonnes for the first in 10 months (April 2014 to January 2015) of this fiscal.
In January, freight loading stood at over 6 million tonnes, 11 per cent more that the corresponding month last year. Meanwhile, ER has reported a 10.47-per cent growth in passenger earnings for January this year to over ₹188 crore.
In the corresponding month last year, its passenger earning stood at over ₹170 crore. ER ran 1,925 trains everyday and carried nearly 10 crore passengers last month.
