Dubai-based airline Emirates has ordered 40 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft. The order is valued at $15.1 billion at list price.

Delivery of the new aircraft will begin from 2022 and end in 2030 and will see the total wide-body Boeings in Emirates’ fleet go up to 204.

“We are still looking at the engine option. You can look forward to another announcement shortly. This (the association with Boeing) is a long-term commitment that supports hundreds of thousands of jobs not only in Boeing but also through the aviation supply chain,” Sheikh Ahmed Saeed Al Makhtoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airlines, said after announcing the order on the opening day of the Dubai air show.

In response to a question on whether the new aircraft will be used to operate flights to India, the airline’s Chief Executive said that this will be decided by the people in Emirates’ planning department.

flydubai unveils aircraft Meanwhile, Dubai-based low-cost airline, flydubai on Sunday unveiled the first of the 76 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft that it has ordered at the opening ceremony of the Dubai Air Show. flydubai hopes to have six Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft in its fleet by the end of the last quarter of 2017. The airline is the first in the region to acquire this aircraft which will allow it to operate flights to destinations that are six to seven hours away from Dubai. Another seven such aircraft will join the fleet next year.

Bangkok, Prague and Zanzibar will be among the first cities to which flydubai will operate these aircraft from its base in Dubai.
