After pilots and ground staff, now engineers of Jet Airways have written a letter to authorities flagging irregularities in salary and safety of the aircraft. According to a letter written to Directorate General of Civil Association, (DGCA) the civil aviation watchdog, Jet Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Welfare Association (JAMWA), the engineers have been facing issues of non-payment of salaries for the past seven months and three months of salaries is overdue.

The letter written by JAMWA, reviewed by BusinessLine stated that the engineers had several meetings with the senior management of the airline and after numerous requests, the airline had given a schedule of payment in December 2018, which would clear dues in full, by the end of the financial year. However, their confidence in the management is now shaken and thus, requested the authorities to intervene.

JAMWA in its letter wrote, “It has been arduous for us to meet our financial requirements, result of which have adversely affected the physiological condition of the aircraft engineers at work and therefore the safety of public transport airplanes flown by Jet Airways across India and the world is at risk.”

The letter was duly marked to authorities in DGCA, Ministry of Civil Aviation, and prime minister, Narendra Modi. The airline has been facing severe financial crunch for the past three quarters and has been delaying salaries of pilots, engineers, senior management and defaulting payments to lenders and lessors.

The pilot body had written a letter to the Ministry of Labour, flagging the issue of delayed salaries. In its letter NAG flagged off that 87.5 per cent of the December 2018 salary along with 100 per cent salaries of January and February 2019 are pending.
