Hindusthan Shipyard Limited (HSL), a public sector company, here has delivered seven vessels in 2018-19 and repaired or refitted 11 vessels, according to Rear-Admiral (rtd) L.V Sarat Babu, the Chairman and Managing Director.
He was speaking in the HSL on the occasion of the seventy-eighth foundation day of the shipyard. the first shipyard in the country was set up here by Seth Walchand Hirachand and the foundation stone was laid by Babu Rajendra Prasad on June 21, 1941.
The first ship build in the Independent India, Jal Usha, was launched from the HSL on March 14, 1948, he said.
He also added that the order book position of the HSL was healthy at Rs 2,685 crores in addition to the FSS project of Rs 10,000 crores. He said the HSL was posting operational and net profits continuously for the past three years.
A roof-top solar power plant was set up in the HSL, generating 28 lakh units per annum and meeting 35 per cent of its power needs. The plant was able to save roughly Rs 48 lakhs per annum, he added.
He said the HSL had signed a pact with the BHEL and Midhani for the sub-marine project.
