“K” Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd), a Japanese cargo shipper, is set to launch a dedicated freight service between the Far East and Indian sub-continent from August 10, shipping industry sources said.
The proposed service, to be known as CIX 2, will deploy six vessels of between 2,500 and 2,800 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a measure of container capacity. The new service will be fixed-day weekly sailing.
The port rotation will be: Xingang-Qingdao-Shanghai-Ningbo-Singapore-Tanjung Pelepas-Port Kelang-Jawaharlal Nehru Port-Karachi-Colombo-Port Kelang-Tanjung Pelepas-Singapore- Xingang.
K Line already operates a weekly service, INDFEX, which calls at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The new service is expected to double “K” Line's sailing frequency at the Indian port and add Xingang and Qingdao as direct calling ports, the sources said.
