Those travelling between Mangaluru and Bengaluru will have flights almost every two hours from March 27.

JT Radhakrishna, Airport Director, Mangaluru International Airport, told Business Line that Mangaluru will be connected to Bengaluru with additional three flights from March 27.

Current schedule At present, airlines such as Jet Airways, SpiceJet and Air Pegasus connect Mangaluru with Bengaluru. While Jet Airways operates six flights daily from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, SpiceJet operates two flights from the Mangaluru airport. Air Pegasus operates one flight from the city to Bengaluru.

In the current schedule, the first flight to Bengaluru from Mangaluru departs at 7 am. The last flight of the day to Bengaluru is at 8.40 pm.

In the proposed schedule, which will come into effect on March 27, the last flight to Bengaluru is likely to depart at 10.45 pm. The other two likely departure timings are at 2 pm and 4.55 pm.

The final schedule will be known once the airline commences booking. All the three additional flights will be operated by Jet Airways, he said.

Flight to Mumbai In addition to this, Jet Airways will operate one more additional flight service between Mangaluru and Mumbai from March 27.

Now Air India, Jet Airways and SpiceJet connect Mangaluru with Mumbai. While Jet Airways operates three flights a day between Mangaluru and Mumbai, the other two airlines operate one each.

He said the timing of the additional flight schedule to Mumbai is yet to be confirmed.

Radhakrishna said the additional flights will help boost traffic growth at Mangaluru airport. Mangaluru airport handled 12.42 lakh passengers, including domestic and international, during the first nine months of 2015-16.
