Nepal is very keen on routing its cargo through Visakhapatnam port as the port has been identified as an alternative port in India, in addition to Kokata and Haldia and a small office may also be opened here soon for the purpose, according to Consul-General of Nepal Eak Narayan. He was heading a team which visited the Vizag port on Friday to inspect the facilities. He said the Nepal Government was seriously considering routing some of the cargo through Vizag port. He said the team was impressed with the facilities at the port.
Earlier, Vizag port Deputy Chairman P.L Haranadh explained about the facilities and infrastructure at the port. He impressed upon the team members that "Visakhapatnam port is a secure, transparent and e-Port and the Nepal trade will derive benefit by making use of the port." He expressed the hope that the traffic from Nepal would start during the current month itself.
