During May 2020, Indian Railways transported 82.27 million tonnes (mt) of essential commodities. This is 25 per cent higher than that recorded in the month of April, said an official release.
Against to the same time last year (May 2019), this is a 21 per cent drop in freight loaded.
In total from April 1, 2020 to June 9, 2020, Indian Railways transported 175.46 mt of essential commodities across the country, added the release.
From March 24 to June 9, more than 31.9 lakh wagons carried supplies to keep the supply chain functional.
