With the temperature in North India expected to drop further in the coming days, RailYatri has issued an advisory to all its travellers along with special alerts on trains most affected by the fog. Indian Railways has also started sending text messages to passengers in case of delays of over one hour.
In the first 15 days after the advent of fog this winter, it is turning out that train delays in the current fog season will be the worst in the last four years. This is according to the live train tracking data accumulated by RailYatri as reported by travellers.
The National Train Delay Index, as published by RailYatri over the last three years has been as follows, wherein it takes the average delay caused by fog. The average time for which trains are delayed: 72 minutes (2014-15); 47 minutes (2015-16); 96 minutes (2016-17) – this is for the period December 15 to 31.
The National Train Delay Index as measured by RailYatri in the last 15 days of December 2017 stands at 87 minutes.
