Incessant rains in mines in the past several weeks have hit hard Eastern Railway's (ER) coal-loading, resulting in a lower coal throughput during April to August at 14.037 million tonnes (mt) as compared to 14.737 mt in the same period last year. However, during the same period ER loaded higher volumes of other goods at 7.74 mt (7.38 mt). ER carried 47.8 crore passengers during the period, up from 45.5 crore in the same period last year. ER's earning during the period was up 6.32 per cent at Rs 2,133.29 crore (Rs 2,006.41 crore), the sources add.
