Trackmen of the Indian Railways are likely to get better quality jackets, shoes, and LED-type HS lamps instead of kerosene lamps and rechargable torches.

The move follows instructions by the Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani, after he walked along with the patrolmen in extreme cold on the Delhi-Rewari tracks. Lohani was with a team of Railway officials including Member Staff DK Gayen.

On Saturday night, CRB conducted cold weather night foot patrolling with patrolmen in the Delhi-Rewari section.

He walked on track in extremely cold weather conditions, with patrolmen. Having closely watched and experienced first-hand the difficult task of patrolmen, he interacted with them and supervisors.

He also examined their safety equipment, protective clothing, boots, fluorescent jackets and passed instructions that instead of overcoats, good quality jackets be supplied. The jackets should be provided preferably once a year as against overcoat once in three years.

He also called for supplying good quality industrial boots by procurement, over and above the uniform allowance.

Additionally, he also called for making available high intensity, chargeable type torches and LED type high pressure sodium lamps HS lamp instead of kerosene based lamps.

The Railways has thousands of trackmen who walk along the tracks in all sorts of weather conditions to ensure safety and security of the track infrastructure and passengers.
