South Central Railway (SCR) has earned Rs 47.52 crore by penalising ticketless travellers and other petty offenders during the six months period April-September, 2014.
A total of 14.77 lakh cases have been detected by ticket checking staff and railway protection force personnel. These include 4.5 lakh cases of travel without tickets, 5.23 lakh irregular travel such as transfer of reserved tickets, adults travelling with child-without ticket or senior citizen tickets and general and season ticket holders travelling in reserved coaches etc.
A further 5 lakh cases of un-booked luggage were also detected during regular, surprise checking. The recovery amount is nearly 17 per cent higher than the collection during the same half yearly period last fiscal, a release from the SCR said.
