South Central Railway has recorded an impressive performance in freight (goods) operations and revenue growth during the half year of current financial year 2014-15.

The originating freight revenue earnings from freight traffic rose by 16 per cent to a record high of Rs 3,966 crores (Rs 3,430 crore), an incremental rise of Rs 536 crore over the same period last fiscal

In freight loading, the Zone saw a 7 per cent rise surpassing the Railway Board’s target too. It has achieved 55.7 million tonnes of originating freight loading against the target of 54.8 mt set by Railway Board. It is also higher by 3.6 mt over the previous year’s loading of 52.1 mt, registered during the same period.

With respect to major commodities loaded, coal registered a 8 per cent growth in cumulative loading of 29.9 mt (27.7 mt) during the half year, an increase of 2.2 mt s year’s loading of 27.7 mt.

Cement loading was 14.8 mt (13.7 mt), an increase of 1.1 mt , while foodgrains with 3 mts of loading and fertilizers with 2.1 mt constituted other major commodities loaded.
