South Central Railway is on a drive to improve energy efficiency and has selected 22 A1 & A class stations in the zone to implement them.

Accordingly, it has signed an agreement with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), which is a joint venture company of public sector units of the Ministry of Power, under the energy service company model.

The agreement will be line with the Railway Board guidelines to provide light emitting diode ligthing, super energy efficient brushless DC electric motor ceiling fans and super energy efficient inverter ACs. They will replace the conventional equivalents.

The approximate savings from the implementation of the project will be around 9.8 lakh units per annum amounting to Rs 88 lakh.

SCR will be the first zone in the Indian Railways, where all its six divisions -- Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded divisions have signed the energy performance agreements, a press release said.
