Tirwin pacts with US maritime body to provide dangerous goods code training

City-based Tirwin Management Services (P) Ltd, a training and consultancy firm, has partnered with International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association, US, to provide the association’s International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) code training in South Asia.

Tirwin will offer the training to shippers, freight forwarders, Container Freight Stations and Inland Container Depot Operators, shipping lines, port authorities and others in South Asian countries.

Tirwin’s Chief Operating Officer B Govindarajan and IVODGA Administrator and Chief Technical Officer John Currie signed an Memorandum of Understanding ​on the partnership in the US on May 16.

IVODGA is an active participant and enjoys consultative status at the International Maritime Organization and the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on Transport of Dangerous Goods. It offers customised on-site training, online training and public IMDG seminars and computer-based training modules. It is also recognised as the industry standard in IMDG training, said Govindarajan, adding Tirwin holds DGCA-India approval and IATA Accreditation to provide Dangerous Goods Regulations Training.

As exports from South Asia continue to rise, it is important that ‘offerers’ and transporters of dangerous goods understand and comply with international regulations. This partnership is to make sure that quality training is available at pricing consistent with the local economy, he said.

IVODGA’s Currie said global compliance of the regulations for safe and efficient transport of dangerous goods is a critical issue for its members to ensure the safety of mariners and our ships at sea.
