In a sign of efficient operations of the Indian Railways, train delays have dropped by 30 per cent since the start of the year 2016.

According to the survey by RailYatri.in, the top five States where average train delay ranges between 14 minutes and 26 minutes are Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Karnataka.

Interestingly, the worst performing States where average train delay ranges from 38 to 61 minutes are Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa and Telangana.

Meanwhile, the survey also found that operations improved in Karnataka, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

However, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Kerala need to pull up their performance.

RailYatri is a crowd-sourcing driven mobile app available which allows users to track and share their train location.

While Train Delay Index in Indian Railways considers only the delay at its final terminating station, the study has considered delays at all intermediate stoppages where the passengers board the train.

“We believe that considering delays at all the stoppages is a more realistic measure and reflects the train traveller’s view about the delay on their train journey," Kapil Raizada, Co-founder RailYatri.in, said.
