Aiming to put an end to the tendency of some people to show off their riches through ostentatious marriage parties, a panchayat of the Quraishi community here has passed a Prohibitory order against unnecessary wedding expenditures.
“The order places a strict restriction on exchange of dowry, videography and fireworks,” panchayat head Haji Jameel said today.
Members of the community in the state will be fined if they are found indulging in any of these, he said.
Over 2,000 Quraishi community members from over 60 villages and towns in western UP attended the panchayat which concluded here yesterday, Jameel said.
An advisory committee was also formed to ensure that the order is soon made applicable to all members of the community across the country, he said.
