A crucial high-level DMK committee meeting is on here to decide the party’s future course of action in the wake of the CBI naming the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi’s daughter Ms Kanimozhi in the second charge-sheet in the 2G spectrum scam.

Mr Karunanidhi and other top leaders would seek to work out ways of dealing with the situation arising out of the CBI charge-sheet that has brought fresh trouble to the party’s ties with the UPA lead partner Congress.

Ms Kanimozhi, a Rajya Sabha MP and a prominent face of the DMK, has been named as ‘co-conspirator’ in the scam, bringing the party’s first family in sharp focus for the first time.

The DMK patriarch is reportedly upset over the fresh development, but party sources said a drastic action such as pulling out of the UPA ministry was unlikely.

Party sources have said the DMK was unlikely to do anything to precipitate matters with the Congress, particularly at a time when results of the April 13 Assembly polls are to be announced on May 13.

All eyes are now on today’s meeting where the DMK is expected to work out strategies to wriggle out of the present situation.

Mr Karunanidhi has, so far, steered clear of speculation about pulling out of the UPA Ministry.
