The ongoing anti-corruption agitation led by ‘Team Anna' has scuttled plans of the Kerala Cabinet to travel to New Delhi and engage Central Ministers to fast forward development of the State.

The emerging situation in the national capital in which the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and several of his Cabinet colleagues find themselves fully occupied has not boded well for the trip, sources said.

FRESH DATES

Fresh appointments would now be sought with the Prime Minister and Central Ministers for mutually convenient dates after the Onam harvest festivities draw to a close in the State, they added.

This would not, however, affect a separately planned trip of the Chief Minister who would dash off to New Delhi on Monday to attend programmes of the Malayalam Mission.

But plans to meet investors and thereafter hold interactions with the Press stand cancelled, the sources said.

ORIGINAL PLAN

The original plan announced in early July would have taken the State Cabinet en masse to Delhi where it would have pitched a tent for five days from today (Monday) to collectively drive a hard bargain for Central assistance for the State and assorted project clearances.

It is learnt that at least 40 appointments had been fixed up with Union Ministers and officials of various departments to drive the campaign.

The Chief Minister himself was expected to meet up with the (then) Union Minister for Environment and Forests, Mr Jairam Ramesh; Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs, Prof K. V. Thomas, and the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, among others.

FAST TRACKING

His Cabinet colleagues would also be present during his meeting with concerned ministry officials according to the latter's convenience.

The meeting was aimed at putting all-round development of Kerala on a fast track by speeding up pending projects funded by the Centre.

Among a large number of issues proposed to be taken up during the parleys included the development work at Kochi Port, the Vallarpadam international container transhipment terminal, the Cochin Shipyard and the proposed deepwater port and international container transhipment terminal at Vizhinjam near here.
