Aircel, with a two million customer base in Kerala, is targeting a 10 per cent of its customer base to switch over to the newly launched 3G services in the State, according to Mr Vipul Saurabh, Head (National Operations and Customer Support).

The aim is to convert the existing customers as well as attracting new customers comprising students and the youth to the purview of 3G services in Kerala, he said at a press conference while launching the 3G services here on Tuesday. He said that the newly introduced 3G services will be available in 10 towns in the State from today.

He pointed out that the switching over to the new services depends upon the availability of more number of handsets in the market. The company has taken steps to create more awareness on 3G services through its call centres in the State.

According to Mr Saurabh, mobile phones will enable Internet growth and penetration propelled by 3G services. The Internet penetration in India is one of the lowest in the world with 7 per cent whereas in Pakistan it is at 11 per cent. There is a huge opportunity to impact the people and their daily life with the launch of 3G services, he added.

The launch of 3G services on Aircel will address the high-speed digital needs of the consumers thus unleashing the power of the Internet further creating opportunities for education, employment, engagement and entertainment which will empower the consumers and impact their life style, he added.
