The officers’ union of state-owned telecom operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL, on Saturday announced that its members will be going on an indefinite hunger strike from Monday.

Sanchar Nigam Executives Association (SNEA) demands standard pay scale implementation and regular promotions.

The Association had undertaken industrial action on earlier occasions also (the last one being in January 2022), seeking redressal of their grievances to vis-a-vis the aforementioned issues.

Previous actions included Twitter campaigns, mass dharna, relay hunger fast, and mass casual leave.

The Association wants all eligible BSNL executives to be promoted up to AGM equivalent grade as per the promotion policy approved by the company board in 2018. These promotions have been due from July 2018.

It also wants necessary steps to be taken to implement E2 and E3 pay scales by the Department of Telecommunications.

SNEA underscored that all Deputy General Manager posts should be filled up regularly instead of “looking after/ad-hoc/entrustment promotions”, it said in a press note.

The Association is also seeking regular promotions for BSNL executives.

“General Secretary and other activists will be starting the indefinite hunger fast in front of BSNL headquarters at New Delhi,” said the press note.
