Indians prefer buying apps in the range of Rs 71- 129, according to a survey by InMobi.

InMobi is an independent mobile advertising company that conducted this study to help it understand the consumer behavior of mobile messaging apps on smartphones in India and the kinds of price points that Indians prefer.

The Mobile Messaging App study conducted on devices between May to June 2014 covered 455 smartphone users in India.

The study showed that 95 per cent of messaging app users in India access messaging apps multiple times in a day and that messaging apps were the preferred way for communication, bypassing even social networks and voice calls.

This is largely driven by a surge in smartphone penetration in the country, according to industry watchers.

While 1 in 5 mobile Internet users have already made an in-app purchase when using a mobile messaging/chat application, about 18 per cent are likely to consider it, according to the study. One-third of the users make in-app purchases mainly to get additional features, the survey added.

Young mobile users in the age group 18-24 are using messaging apps and even people in the age group of 35 - 44 years are also buying these apps, driven by their ease of use, according to the survey.
