Education service provider Core Technologies has teamed up with Texas Instruments to come out with a handheld device to help students break away from the rote learning method and become active learners. Core plans to launch this device commercially soon. It is targeting Governments and educational institutions. STEMpower, a wifi-enabled device smaller than a tablet, is in-built with science and mathematics content for senior secondary students.

The content, which includes pictorial aids, graphs, spreadsheets, equations, sample questions and puzzles, aids in immersive learning and deep-practice. The portable device has real-world experiments that help students understand concepts better by making a connection with the real world, according to a company official. For instance, if one is learning about the ‘speed' concept, the device actually measures the time and distance of a person running and helps the student in calculating the speed at which he or she is running.

The aim is to encourage students to make connections, explore and become active learners. Most government schools do not even have science laboratories – STEMpower will help solve this issue and empower schools to be on the cutting edge of technology integration, says Ms Maya S. Sinha, Director, Core.

While the technology comes from Texas Instruments, content is from Core. Although the price of the device is still being worked upon, Core says this portable solution will involve little overhead and few infrastructure needs.

Mumbai-based Core Technologies is listed on both the BSE and NSE.
