The Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Mr Sachin Pilot, has inaugurated the India-Armenia Centre for Excellence in ICT, in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The centre has been completed with an assistance of Rs 7.5 crore by the Indian Government. The centre has been set up under a bilateral agreement signed in June 2009.
Mr Pilot inaugurated the centre along with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Mr Tigran Sargsyan. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pilot said, “The centre should be viewed as reaffirmation of India's commitment to stand and act as a reliable partner of Armenia in its developmental efforts”.
India's development assistance to Armenia covers human resource development and capacity building, agro-engineering, and several projects in ICT sector. India, with its experience in the field of ICT, and Armenia with its high IT literacy were natural partners, the Minister said.
