Spiceworks, an Austin, Texas-based marketplace for products and solutions for the IT industry, has opened a development centre here.

The centre will have 25 engineers who will focus on product development, expanding the company’s capacities outside of the US.

The centre — the third location for the firm after Austin and London — will have software engineers, product managers and data scientists.

“We have hired Talgan Kumar Rao to oversee operations, hiring and the day-to-day management of the centre,” said Jay Hallberg, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Spiceworks.

The online professional network helps users to seek advice and buy IT products and solutions from relevant vendors.

It generates revenues from advertisements placed by IT product vendors on the platform.

“We help businesses in finding, adopting and managing the latest and relevant technologies, while enabling vendors to build, market and support better products and services,” he said.

The firm, which has about 270 employees globally, has begun its operations with four employees. It will soon grow the workforce to 25 engineers.

On tapping the Indian market, he said the platform gets huge traffic from Indian users.

“We are keen on exploring the opportunity here,” the CEO said.
