Coimbatore-based start-up Vestige Technologies has developed a remote monitoring device for the oil and gas industry. “The device, when installed in oil delivery pipelines, will transmit data to the central server, from where the details can be monitored round the clock,” said G. Rammohan, Managing Director, Vestige Technologies. The company has bagged an order from Qatar and is in the process of commercialising the product. “Middle East is a good market for us now,” Rammohan told Business Line . “The product – Vestige Technologies Asset Integrator – is fixed along the transformer rectifiers. It will digitise the current and voltage values from the transformer rectifier and transmit the data to the central server using wireless technology,” he said. Rammohan said “oil and gas operators face daunting challenges keeping their downstream delivery pipelines safe and operational.” Operators invariably use Cathodic Protection extensively on these transmission pipelines, as it can be applied by maintaining a DC circuit, and its effectiveness can be monitored continuously. The reading is done manually now. Operators engage contractors and labourers to take the reading and they visit the area once a fortnight. It has been found that data are incorrect due to wrong interpretation or failure to visit the location. “The probability of a potential damage in the pipeline going unnoticed is also high,” he said.
