Shares in Bharti Airtel, the country’s largest telecom operator by revenue and subscribers, closed up 2.92 per cent on Wednesday, after soaring to more than 3 per cent on the BSE.
Bharti Airtel was also the top gainer among the 30 Sensex shares, with it gaining 3.34 per cent during the day. Its shares closed up at Rs 324.75 apiece on BSE.
According to analysts, the company’s shares rose on reports that it was planning to raise another $2 billion through issuance of bonds this financial year.
“Bharti Airtel Ltd or its subsidiaries keeps evaluating opportunities, on an ongoing basis to refinance the debt portfolio at efficient cost and maturity,” it said in a regulatory filing.
It further confirmed that the company has not released any specific information pertaining to the news report and if required, will make necessary disclosures at an appropriate time.
