Spot pepper prices ruled steady on Wednesday as demand matched supply. However, active contracts on the IPSTA platform were up, bringing it on par with spot prices, market sources told BusinessLine . They said domestic demand pushed up Karnataka prices to ₹600 a kg for 500 GL pepper delivered anywhere in India. High range sellers were quoting ₹615 a kg while semi-processed Kodagu mixed pepper was being traded at ₹600 a kg. Only 17 tonnes of pepper arrived at the terminal market, mainly from the plains, high ranges. The entire quantity was traded. On the IPSTA platform, May and June contracts moved up by ₹500 a quintal to close at ₹61,500 and ₹61,490 respectively. Spot prices remained steady at ₹58,500 (ungarbled) and ₹61,500 (garbled). Indian export prices were at $10,000 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,250 for the US.
