Prices of turmeric on Tuesday witnessed an uptrend due to low arrivals here.

“Only 3,569 bags of turmeric arrived for sale on Tuesday which is the lowest arrival for sale in Erode in the last three years. Fine varieties of turmeric arrived for sale. Because of such low arrival and also quality goods, the prices were increased. The Hybrid variety fetched encouraging price of Rs 6,700 a quintal,” said Mr R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

He said stockists quoted increased price after verifying the samples. They stocked turmeric with an intention of sell them when the prices improved.

Some Commission Mundy traders purchased the turmeric below Rs 5,000 a quintal, also kept samples sold them at prevailing price of Rs 5,2005,800.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs 3,019-5,129, the root variety at Rs 3,009-4,891.

Salem Crop: The finger variety was sold at Rs 4,699- 6,759 while the root variety at Rs 4,516-5,211. Of the arrival of 755 bags, 423 bags were sold.

At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,899-5,700, the root variety at Rs 4,601-5,299. All the 248 bags of turmeric arrived for sales were sold.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety was sold at Rs 4,999-5,896, the root variety at Rs 4,345-5,127. Of the 497 bags of turmeric kept for sales, 458 bags were sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety fetched Rs 3,289-5,899, the root variety at Rs

3,386-5,159. All the 79 bags of turmeric kept for sales were sold.
