A volume of 17.49 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 49 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction, the first in December, concluding on Friday.
This is some 37,000 kg more than the that offered last week.
Of the total, 16.22 lakh kg is CTC variety and only 1.27 lakh kg, orthodox. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 82,000 kg is orthodox while 10.35 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 45,000 kg is orthodox while 5.87 lakh kg is CTC. In all, 11.17 lakh kg are Leaf grades and 6.32 lakh kg, Dust.
Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹85-95 a kg for plain Leaf grades and ₹120-127 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, it was ₹85-100 and for the best grades, ₹130-138.
