Tracking a firm trend in precious metals overseas, silver prices rose Rs 153 to Rs 42,555 per kg at the futures trade today as speculators widened their positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in December surged Rs 153 or 0.36 per cent to Rs 42,555 per kg in a business turnover of 657 lots.
The white metal for delivery in March was trading higher by Rs 138 or 0.32 per cent at Rs 43,225 per kg in 43 lots.
Market analysts said speculative positions built up by participants, driven by a firm global trend, mainly attributed to the rise in silver prices at the futures trade here.
Meanwhile, silver traded 0.03 per cent higher at $17.88 an ounce in Singapore.
