Asian shares jumped to their highest in nearly three years as investors hope that the strong jobs growth in the United States will lift the global economic prospects.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 50.93 points or 0.52 per cent to 9,759.32. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng surged 260.49 points or 1.09 per cent to 24,062.39. Singapore’s Straits Times was up 18.37 points or 0.59 per cent at 3,138.84.
South Korea’s Kospi was down 10.5 points or 0.5 per cent at 2,110.51. Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 climbed 35.8 points or 0.74 per cent to 4,897.60.
Stock markets in China and Taiwan are closed today on account of Qingming festival.
