Essar Ports Ltd's board of directors on Monday approved issuance of Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds/ Global Depository Receipts/ American Depository Receipts/ Optionally Compulsorily Convertible Bonds/ any other instruments convertible into shares of the company up to $500 million.

Varun Industries Ltd, which has business interests that include steel ware, agri products, oil and natural gas, wind energy, uranium, heavy mineral sand, gold mining, gems and jewellery, through its overseas arm has discovered ten Heavy Mineral Sand (HMS) mining blocks covering an area of 62.5 sq.km. in Ankilimitraha, Belay and Analapatsy areas of Anosy region in Republic of Madagascar.

In a recent development the company has also discovered gold at Madagascar mines with their joint venture partner Torian Resources NL (formerly known as Cluff Resources Pacific NL). According to recent test reports, one tonne of ore from the mine has 9-16.5 grams of gold with an average of 12 g/t of gold against the conventional 6-7 grams of gold found in same quantity of ore in other mines.
