Closing bell : The benchmark stock index advanced for the first time in four days as earnings optimism outweighed concerns that Asia's third-biggest economy may be crimped by higher oil prices.

The 30-share BSE index Sensex closed higher by 489.80 points or 1.27 per cent at 39,054.68 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty ended up 150.20 points or 1.30 per cent at 11,726.15.

The market breadth was neutral as 1,247 shares advanced, against a decline of 1,249 shares, while 158 shares were unchanged.

Top five Nifty gainers were UltraTech Cement, BPCL, HCL Technologies, IndusInd Bank and ONGC, while the major losers were Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti, Coal India and Cipla.

UltraTech Cement Q4 net profit at Rs 1,014 crore

Aditya Birla Group firm UltraTech Cement Wednesday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,014.19 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 446.13 crore in the January-March quarter a year ago, UltraTech Cement said in a BSE filing.

The company’s total income stood at Rs 11,031.27 crore during the quarter under review. It was Rs 9,401.39 crore in the corresponding period previous fiscal.

SEBI bars Hotel Leelaventure from selling properties to Brookfield Asset Management

Cash-strapped Hotel Leelaventure on Wednesday said the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has barred it from selling its four hotels and other assets to Canadian investment fund Brookfield Asset Management.

On March 18, Hotel Leelaventure Ltd (HLVL) had announced sale of its four hotels located in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Udaipur, and a property to Canadian investment fund Brookfield for Rs 3,950 crore. Oil dips on well supplied markets despite tighter Iran sanctions

Oil prices fell on Wednesday amid signs that global markets remain adequately supplied, despite a jump to 2019 highs this week on Washington's push for tighter sanctions against Iran.

Brent crude futures were at $74.17 per barrel, down 34 cents, or 0.5 percent, from their last close.

USFDA retains OAI status of Indoco's Goa Plant I

Indoco Remedies on Wednesday said, the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has retained the Official Action Indicated (OAI) status for Goa Plant - I. The finished dosages facility was inspected by the USFDA in January 2019.

"We are in the process of sending our responses to the regulators, as and when the commitments given in response to Form 483 observations are fulfilled. We believe that this OAI status will not impact our current commercial supplies to USA or revenues from this manufacturing facility. However, this may withhold approval of our pending ANDAs from this facility", said Aditi Kare Panandikar, Managing Director, Indoco Remedies Limited.

The plant currently supplies against one approved ANDA and has four ANDAs pending for approval.

Indiabulls Real Estate rises on London property sale

Indiabulls Real Estate shares on Wednesday rose as much as 11 per cent to Rs 117.20.  The company said on Tuesday that it is divesting Century Ltd, the firm that houses Hanover Square property, London, to its promoter for 200 million pounds ($258.7 million)

It further stated that the divestiture is in light of sluggish London property market due to Brexit uncertainty and decided to focus only on Mumbai and Delhi's National Capital Region markets. The post-transaction net debt will be around Rs 3,000 crore.
