The stock markets behaved like a yo-yo throughout Wednesday. The Nifty closed 27 points higher at 4,832 while the Sensex closed 115 points higher at 16,008.
Marketmen were perplexed at the direction the indices took. “It was a very strange behaviour from both the indices. They were down since morning until 12 noon, went into the green until 2 PM, again slipped into the red until 3 PM, before recovering and closing in the green,” said a dealer from an Indian brokerage.
“The volume logged in today however, was higher than what was recorded during the last couple of days.”
Power Grid, ONGC, DLF, NTPC and Jindal Steel were the top five gainers on the Nifty while SAIL, Sterlite, Ranbaxy, Axis Bank and Hero Motocorp were the top five losers.
