The rupee fell marginally by 9 paise to Rs 44.16 against the US dollar in the early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today, weighed down by a weak trend at the bourses.
However, the dollar’s losses against other currencies abroad restricted the rupee’s losses.
The domestic unit had strengthened by 13 paise to close at Rs 44.07/08 a dollar in the previous session on Friday on fresh sale of dollar by exporters and banks.
Forex dealers said the lower opening in the stock market exerted pressure on the rupee sentiment.
