Here is some good news for bank job aspirants. The State Bank of India (SBI) is filling up vacancies for 541 Probationary Officers (PO).

A notification issued by the bank said the online registration process for applicants commenced on June 24 and would remain open till July 14, 2025.

The much-awaited notification came after a mega recruitment drive by SBI for 13,735 clerical positions in December last year, which is almost complete.

Contrary to expectations, SBI did not release a PO recruitment notification last year. The last notification for officers was released in 2023, to fill up 2,000 positions.

SBI has recruited a growing number of bank job-aspirants every year over the last five years. Its hiring of clerks went up from 7,820 in 2020 to 8,283 in 2023, and to 13,735 clerical vacancies in 2024.

CIBIL

Despite concerns over the clause on the CIBIL record of applicants introduced by SBI earlier, it remains one of the eligibility criteria.

Candidates who have defaulted in repayment under any lending arrangement with banks / NBFCs/ financial institutions, including credit card dues, and have not regularised or repaid their outstanding thereunder till the date appointed by the bank, are not eligible for appointment to the post.

However, candidates who have regularised/ repaid such outstanding on or before the date of issuance of offer of appointment, but whose CIBIL status has not been updated till then, shall, on or before the date of joining, have to either get the CIBIL status updated or produce the NOCs from the lender to the effect that there is no outstanding with respect to the accounts adversely reflected in the CIBIL

Graduates in any discipline in the 21-30 age group are eligible to apply and reservations and age relaxations are provided in line with government policy.

The approximate CTC in the initial scale of pay for a PO in the Mumbai centre is ₹20.43 lakh, while it could vary based on location of work as per norms.

While SBI conducts recruitment on its own, the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) handles recruitment for other public sector banks. Last year, IBPS released notifications for 10,979 vacancies of Probationary officers, specialist officers and clerks, as against 8,996 vacancies in 2023.
