The COP26, or the 26th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be mostly about three issues: raising countries’ commitments for climate action, mobilizing more funds and framing rules for carbon markets. The need for an agreement on these counts is urgent because the world’s fever is getting worse, but given the almost intractable positions of the negotiating countries, a solid settlement seems difficult.
