The Coimbatore district unit of Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) has urged the State Government to release subsidy for the purchase of generators by micro and small enterprises soon.

J James, Coimbatore district President of TACT, in a letter to K Shanmugam, Finance Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, said the State Government had offered 25 per cent subsidy to entrepreneurs for purchase of generators when the state faced acute power shortage.

The Government gesture came as a great relief to the entrepreneurs who were hit by the acute power shortage and several thousand promoters of small and micro units started buying generators from 2012.

But since January 2013, those who had purchased generators have been waiting for release of the subsidy amount by the State Government. He said nearly 1,800 entrepreneurs in both Coimbatore and Tirupur districts were yet to receive the generator subsidy amounting to Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000 each.

James said the release of outstanding subsidy would come as a great relief to the beneficiaries since they were suffering from lack of job orders even though the power situation was comfortable.
