Madhu Kumar, the wife of Union Minister Ashwani Kumar passed away here today. She was 61.
Madhu Kumar, who was ailing for sometime, breathed her last at a private hospital here.
She was cremated at Nigambodh Ghat in the afternoon in the presence of family members, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, Parliamentarians and senior bureaucrats.
Earlier, in the day, President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi spoke to Kumar and expressed their condolences.
Gursharan Kaur, the wife of the Prime Minister, and Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson Montek Singh Alhuwalia visited the residence of Kumar.
