Chhattisgarh reported a total voter turnout off 76.35 per cent with a 76.39 per cent turnout in the first phase and 76.34 per cent in the second, the Election Commission announced on Wednesday.

During the last Assembly Elections in 2013, the turnout was 77.40 per cent.

On Tuesday evening, after polling for the second and final round of Assembly Elections concluded, the Commission had given the provisional figure for voter turnout at 71.93 per cent, which increased to 76.34 per cent.

Polls were held in eight districts in the State during the first phase of polling on November 12, while the remaining 19 districts went to polls on Tuesday. Thirty-eight of the 90 Assembly Constituencies reported a turnout in excess of 80 per cent, a record for Chhattisgarh, the Commission said. The data shows that 29 of the 38 Assembly constituencies, which are primarily rural constituencies, reported a voter turnout in excess of 80 per cent. These 29 constituencies went to polls in the second phase.

The highest voter turnout was reported in Kurud at 88.99 per cent, followed by Kharsiya at 86.81 per cent, while the lowest voter turnout in the State was reported in Bijapur at 44.68 per cent, the Commission said.

More women voters

During the second phase, Raipur North (60.3 per cent) and Raipur West (60.45 per cent) reported the lowest voter turnout.

During the second phase in 23 Assembly Constituencies, women voters outnumbered men voters.

There are 1,269 candidates in the fray in Chhattisgarh.

The authorities set up 23,677 polling stations at close to 20,000 polling locations, officials said.
