The AP Government has decided to annul admissions in 11 engineering colleges and three pharmacy colleges in the state for the academic year 2015-16.

State HRD Minister G. Srinivasa Rao told reporters here on Monday that the decision was taken after a committee formed by the government found that the colleges were indulging in gross irregularities in admission for the past couple of years.

He said the committee had gone into various issues on the basis of parameters of functioning of the engineering colleges in the state. “It was found that the errant colleges were admitting students from other states such as Jharkhand, Odisha and Manipur against the prescribed norms,” he said.

The colleges include Sai Madhavi Institute of Science and Technology- Rajahmundry, RK College of Engineering – Vijayawada, GVR and S College of Engineering and Technology – Guntur, Gokul Institute of Technology and Sciences- Vizianagaram, Gandhiji Institute of Science and Technology- West Godavari, AS and KR College of Technology and Management – Visakhapatnam, Balaji Institute of Technology and Sciences- Kadapa, Tadipatri Engineering College- Anantapur, Praveenya Institute of Marine Engineering – Vizianagaram, Guntur Engineering College- Guntur, DNR College of Engineering – West Godavari, Nalandha Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences – Guntur, KJR College of Pharmacy- Rajahmundry and Sri Lakshmi Narasimha College of Pharmacy- Chittoor.

The minister said the Government would now crack down on the B.Ed colleges, as the education department had received a number of complaints on a few colleges and notices had been served.

He said, “Irregularities and malpractices will not be allowed, as we intend to make our state a knowledge state. Quality is essential and we have formed a committee to grade the engineering colleges, depending on their performance. It will be done this year.”
