French nuclear energy major Areva SA said on Wednesday that it signed a cooperation agreement with Jadavpur University.
The university here, which is recognised for its research work in the field of nuclear energy, would get Areva support for doctoral studies in its School of Nculear Studies and Applications.
“Areva’s R&D department will provide financial and educational support for three doctoral students for five years,” a company release said.
Martha Crawford-Heizmann, Serior Executive Vice-President for Research, Development and Innovation at Areva, in a statement said that the agreement signalled Areva’s long-term engagement with Indian educational institutions to help build local expertise in nuclear technologies and their safe management.
Areva in February had signed a similar agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
According to Pradip Kumar Ghosh, the Registrar of Jadavpur University, the students will get opportunity to undertake research on strategic topics with the support of one of the nuclear technology world leaders.
