Why should city hackers have all the fun? Techies in semi-urban colleges in Telangana will soon have the opportunity to take part in hackathons in their respective colleges.

The Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA) has joined hands with a group of organisations that organise hackathons to conduct the app development challenges in 60 engineering colleges in the next months in the rural, semi-urban and urban areas in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. About 25 of them would be organised on a single weekend in December.

Winners of these hackathons will gather in Hyderabad in May next to join HyderabadHackers Fest and showcase their apps.

The alliance, HyderabadHackers.in, will bring together devthon.org (by PiSutra), IdeaThon (Uptec Idealabs), Startup Weekend, HackMania (by Hyderabad Entrepreneurship society), Gaming Hackathons (by Startup Hyderabad), AngelHack, Fest.info, Null Hyderabad, Coding Saturdays and Edukinect.

In the first phase, the alliance would focus on holding hackathons, asking the techies to develop apps and solutions for smart cities, Ramesh Loganathan, President of HYSEA, said here in a statement on Tuesday.

“The objective of the initiative is to create awareness and interest among students for product and technology programming which is vital for the creation of solutions and products,” he said.

The first set of hackathons will be organised to mark the golden jubilee of Computer Society of India (CSI). On December 4-5, the alliance will hold hackathon in over 25 different colleges in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The winners of these hackathons will be invited to a breakfast with former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam. Top teams will get the help of experts from IIT-Hyderabad on December 11 and 12 in shaping up their ideas into prototypes.
